PORTO SANTO HISTORY

Six Centuries of Maritime Heritage

Discovered in 1418 by the Portuguese navigators João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira, Porto Santo became one of the earliest strategic outposts of Portugal's Atlantic maritime expansion. Its privileged location established the island as a natural harbour of refuge and an important stopover for vessels crossing the Atlantic. Today, Porto Santo Marina continues this maritime legacy, providing a safe and modern harbour for sailors navigating the Atlantic routes.
